Services Overview
Nelson City Medical Centre offers a wide range of specialised health services in the Nelson CBD. Our focus is on our patients and we like to support them in any way we can.
GP Services
We have three GPs at Nelson City Medical Centre. We provide a full range of general practice services for all health issues. We also have additional knowledge and areas of special interest.
GP Appointments
GP Appointments for general health issues which may include medication reviews, diabetes clinics, sexual health and contraception, heart disease and stroke risk assessments.
Skin Checks and Minor Surgery
All of our GPs offer skin cancer checks and perform minor surgery as required. In addition, Dr Katie Maver is accredited by the Skin Cancer College Australasia, and is able to offer additional services in this area.
ACT and counselling
Mental wellness is as important as physical wellness to our health. At NCMC we are interested in listening to your thoughts and feelings, and have higher training in this area. ACT is a form of counselling that uses mindfulness to encourage self acceptance.
Preventative Health, Lifestyle and Nutrition
As a nation we are struggling with increasing levels of obesity and diabetes. At NCMC we have a special interest in nutrition, and its therapeutic possibilities to control diabetes, and other medical conditions.
Travel Medicine
If you would like information on travel health, and vaccination, we are able to advise in this area. This requires a full consult, and it is helpful if you can fill in this form, and bring it to the practice before your consult.
Mens Health
Although our practitioners are all female, we have experience with mens health needs. We are happy to discuss any issues that may arise.
Practice Nurse Services
Our Practice Nurses provide a variety of services. We advocate for our patients and support them as much we can by open communication with the patient, family and whanau.
Lifestyle
We offer diabetic and heart health checks. This can include lifestyle and medication advice. We can provide referrals to support services such as Green Prescription if appropriate.
Smoking Cessation
Our nurses offer comprehensive smoking cessation support – if you are considering quitting give us a call and make an appointment to help get you started.
Wound Care
We provide care for wounds, both acutely and ongoing, blood tests, removal of stitches, liquid nitrogen treatment and many other services for our patients.
Cervical Smears
Cervical Smears are an important service that we offer to all women of eligible age. We can also provide emergency contraception and sexual health checks.
Vaccinations
We offer vaccinations as per the New Zealand Immunisation Schedule. We also offer other immunisations if needed. If you have any questions about immunisation feel free to come and talk to us and we will happily answer your questions.
Prescriptions
Prescriptions for regular medication can be requested via Manage My Health, in person or by telephone. To ensure your medication is still right for you a regular review with your Dr is needed. Please talk to the nurse if you would like more information about this.

We focus on our patients and are keen to support them any way we can. This includes:
